The Prophecy of Shadows by Michelle Madow | Book Review

Filled with magic, thrilling adventure, and sweet romance, Elementals is the first in a new series that fans of Percy Jackson and The Secret Circle will love!

When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches. Even more surprisingly … she’s apparently a witch herself. Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers—and, to her dismay, by Blake—the school’s notorious bad-boy.

Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle’s wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.

When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers. But the comet has another effect—it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it’s up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town … and possibly the world.

Thank you netgalley for giving me a copy in exchange of a honest review!

How would I describe this book in a sentence? Let’s say…Greek mythology, with a twist!

While requesting the title, I did not read much more than “fans of Percy Jackson” and I have already decided that I would love this book. While I understand how the author mixed up greek mythology with the modern era (and it was very well thought of!), I did not really “loved” this book.BUT! I really liked it.

The plot was very well developed and I loved where it was heading. I enjoyed the witches/greek mythology hybrid and it was indeed very fresh and well-paced. I may be a little biased, but I am a sucker for everything that involves greek mythology, so…

The writing was easy and compelling, in fact, I had to remind myself to go to sleep last night because I couldn’t find a good moment to stop! Once you start, you can’t seem to stop because the story’s so intriguing that you NEED to know what’s going to happen next.

The only thing that I didn’t quite enjoy was… insta-attraction . I DO NOT like instalove or insta attraction, so yes, the fact that she couldn’t keep her eyes off him, and vice-versa, was… well, it was cliché and over-used. I think I am growing bored of the whole idea, and now I cannot help but cringe everytime there’s insta attraction, or worse; insta love. So yes, I didn’t enjoy the whole romance; could you please decide to know the person a little more than a week and a half before falling for him? Please? Could you be more realistic?

Then there was the bitchy girlfriend. And not surprisingly, she did not look as bitchy as I initially thought she was going to be while reading what this book was about. But I enjoyed reading about the character and well, she was fun.

On the overall, yes, the characters were well written. Except maybe the fact that MC is naturally gifted from the beginning, even though that, by the ending, we know why. Also, I have a feeling that the next book is going to be more action-packed, and I already cannot wait! This is going to be good, people!

So, if you like witches and mythology, then this book is for you!

And… that is it! Do you plan to give this book a try? Tell me in the comments below!
